What if people were automatically tagged on your Facebook videos? Yes, it will soon be possible!

With video-based social networks like Periscope and Snapchat getting stronger on a daily basis, Facebook is now focusing on videos.

The news was unveiled on the Facebook’s annual F8 developer conference.

On the second day of the event, the director of applied machine learning, Joaquin Quiñonero Candela, said that Facebook is rolling out automatic captioning for the videos posted on timeline. Ok, we already have this on Youtube.

But this was not the only novelty: soon the automatic tagging resource would let users search people within videos.

Couldn’t get better? Yes, it could: the technology will only tag the frames of the video where the person appears, said Quiñonero.

If the new resource is confirmed, you will be able to not only find videos with specific individuals, but also fast-forward to the exact moment they appear – this will take stalking to a hole new level!

For now, the automatic facial-recognition and tagging technology is available only for photos, buy apparently Facebook wants to take tagging to a new kind of media.
